Zomg, 2008 is coming to an end. Probably another eventful year for me. Started off quite bad actually for me. Lost $$ during mahjong every single session. Getting injured. Then it became better. Promoted to open category. Got a chance to go to Krabi. EOS 40D at my disposal, though not mine. Nonetheless I have a bunch of very close friends whom I appreciate a lot. And of course Mr Planet bestest sausage party buddy :)
An interesting fact that the news reported. 2008 is actually the longest year in 16 years. Longest in terms of seconds in fact. Plus the fact that 2008 is a leap year.
So 2009 is knocking on our doors in a matter of days! With a new year comes new year resolutions.
I have a few of my own. Hope that the list aint exhuastive or overly ambitious.
1. To be a better person, to both myself and more importantly those around me.
2. To finally get some A's on my report card.
3. To stop shouting when climbing (a little hard).
Post trip sentiments
I came back from Malaysia looking like I have put on quite a bit of muscle, and even more fats I think. Honestly I think I didnt climb that much to gain all that muscle. Think it's time to lose weight since competition is nearing. 55kg or less, here I come!!
While on the trip, I read the Jan 2009 issue of Rock and Ice. Very interesting Articles inside. But the one that got me inspired was the one which and I quote "Weighted Chin-ups are good, for doing chin ups". Well basically what the article was refering to was that doing campus training and all that weighted training aint as beneficial as just climbing and focusing on technique and precise footwork. Those few sentences above shall make up 80% of my training program for the upcoming semester. The other 20% will of course be the weighted training that Mr Jenny Jensen enforces, as well as my swimming. Let's hope that I can get stronger and put the past injury(s) I had behind me.
Wish me luck!

Ok, this is the long awaited update. Hectic month of December for me.
7th December
Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2008. My 2nd marathon though I always say that the last marathon will be my last, somehow there is always this feeling, this temptation, the urge to run it again. For me, the feeling of completing a full marathon makes it worthwhile. Though like everyone else, we are cursing under our breaths from start to end. Next marathon held in SG is the Adidas Sundown Marathon in May. Not sure if I will be running that one.
Talking about running, I have also decided to temporarily stop running, to give my achilles tendon a good rest. But meanwhile I will be swimming instead. For 2 reasons: 1. I still need to do cardio exercises cuz I wanna lose weight. 2. I wanna try to take part in the NUS Biathlon and I need my swimming stamina back.
Team Trip from 14th Dec - 23rd Dec
Gua Kelam
The place looks rather decent. I thought that I could prepare the the trip by warming up on all the easy routes there but it was not to be. The place is infested with hordes of flying insects that sting you when disturbed. Edwin got stung about 11 times while I myself was a target for 2 of those insects.
A little way further in and the path will lead to the entrance of the cave. Walking through it will bring you to the other side of the park, where there are even more crags.

Everyone looking lost. Only Teck Chew seems keen.

Bukit Keteri
The weather was kinder to us from the 2nd climbing day onwards. Though it rained a little in the morning, the sky was clear for the most part of the day, as well as the rest of the days following. Climbing at Bukit Keteri was way better than at Gua Kelam. No bees/hornets/wasps, and way less mosquitos. The rocks are cleaner. Routes are way funner!!

No pictures taken using my camera phone in Ipoh and KL. Guess I was too lazy. Its good to be back at Tambun and Camp 5. Climbed hard. Ate hard too!! All in all a good trip. Minus the present that I am going to receive from Cassandra the Asshole that does not deal cards. Of course I will not reveal it yet. Who knows? Maybe she decides to change the present and give me a much better one!!!
