Race 6 and other stuff
Tuesday, July 29, 2008 10:42 PM

Took part in Race 6 organised by NUS ODAC. I must say that I am kinda disappointed with the organising. Lots of screw ups. Imagine given a wrong clue to a checkpoint that wasnt supposed to be a checkpoint? I will be damn bloody pissed. Well that was what happened, but fortunately not to my team. Supper or whatever it was called was pathetic the first night when we camped at Sembawang Park. One pathetic slice of bread with nutella on it. I am sure they didnt plan for it. Our handphones and wallets were all sealed in the afternoon so we couldnt eat anything till 11pm. Oh and we were expecting a decent breakfast to start off day 2 of the race and guess what we got? 1 freaking slice of bread with peanut butter again. Zzz thankfully we managed to steal food from the next station at NTU. I also feel that the route was badly planned. Idiotic. I wonder whats their objective. To freaking go from east to west and back to east. For what? To cover distance? And the activities that are inside. Other than travelling in a group, everything else is pretty much done by 1 group member eg abseiling, parachute jump, rock climbing. Only archery and cable skiing was done by all of us. I must admit that was fun and we wouldnt have perservered, or should I say, endured the entire shitty race if not for the cable skiing. I probably wun take part in it again. Horrible.

I signed up for the Standard Chartered Marathon. Will be my 2nd full marathon. Hopefully I can get a decent timing this time around. Going to buy new adidas racers and possibly new climbing shoes. Shall take a look at the Evolv Optimus Prime when it comes out.

Krabi Update No. 3, Post Krabi and what not.
Friday, July 25, 2008 1:46 AM

Ok here is the update for the last week at Krabi. The weather for that particular was wet and windy. It was raining everyday. Not much time to climb and only certain places are climbable eg Tonsai Roof cuz the rest are all wet! We were pretty much stoning most of the time at Freedom Bar while waiting for the rain to stop. Didnt climb much.

Monday @ Tonsai Roof
Baby Gorilla 7c - Hangdog

Tuesday @ Tonsai Roof
Baby Gorilla 7c - Redpoint (~20 tries)

Thursday @ Dum's Kitchen
Tiger Queen 7b - Hangdog

Thursday @ Tonsai Wall
Sex Power 8a - Hangdog

Caleb, Tony, John and I left Tonsai on Friday Morning for Patong. We took a boat from Tonsai to Ao Nang followed by a chartered mini bus to Krabi Town and then a 3 hr Patong. After circling the place a couple of times we finally found a place to stay for the night. After dropping our packs, we make out way to this giant (well maybe not so giant) shopping mall called Jungceylon. We watched Hancock for 140 Baht which is less than $6. Walked around the happening area of Patong. Lots of clubs and bars and hookers and trannies lol. John and I took a cab to the airport on Saturday morning and arrived in Singapore at 1230.

All and all I felt that 3 weeks is Krabi is a little too long for me. But somehow 2 weeks doesnt feel long enough. Maybe I need to climb more. But I enjoyed myself. Really experienced the eat, sleep, climb lifestyle. However its great to be back too!!

Trained on Monday. Went to school in the afternoon to do hangs and system training. My pinch strength has definitely improved but the tendons in my left arm dun seem to be functioning as they should. I felt a slight discomfort in my left forearm while I was hanging on pockets. Looks like I really have to avoid pockets for the time being. I ran 6.4km that very night. I ran very hard with a timing of 38 mins. Which I guess wasnt a bad timing considering the fact that I did not run for 3 weeks. For some reason my thighs have been aching for 2 days straight. It was almost that same horrible feeling that I experienced after running the Standard Chartered Marathon. But at least I am better now.

Will be taking part in Race 6 organised by NUS ODAC. It will be a 3 day 2 night adventure race around the territorial borders of Singapore. So exciting!! Met up with my team yesterday to discuss who to bring what and attire. After that we went to play DOTA. I think it was almost a year since I played that game. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I might just pick it up again, at least for these few weeks before school starts.

Update after 1 week at Krabi
Saturday, July 5, 2008 10:21 PM

Ok, after 1 week in krabi, its time to update this blog.

Things here have been alright. Its the super low peak season so there aint many people around. We are the few Singaporeans here. There are many caucasians from both US and Europe. Expect 10 times more during the high peak season during the month of December.

We are currently staying at this place called Diamond Cave at Railay East. Claudia left today, while Jiasheng, Sandra, Gerry and Doris moved to Tonsai. John, Pengyang, Caleb and I will be joining them tomorrow. Tonsai will not be as high tech and touristy as Railay cuz I guess the place is more for climbers. I shall see how when I am there.

Summary of the routes I did:
Monday @ Fire Wall
For Helga 6a+ - Onsight
Boobtube 6b - Onsight
The Groove Tube 6a - Onsight
White Hot Hernias 6b+ - Hangdog Finish

Tuesday @ Duncan's Boot
Karoake 6a - Onsight
Mai Prue (Never Mind) 6c - Hangdog Finish
Top Knot 6b+ - Redpoint

Tuesday @ The Keep
Nut Cracker 6c - Hangdog Finish
Lom Mon (Cyclone) 7a - Hangdog

Thursday @ Tyrolean Wall
Missing Snow 6b+ - Onsight
Loisl 6c+ - Hangdog Finish
Unknown Route 6b+/6c - Redpoint

Friday @ Dum's Kitchen
The Lion King 6c+ - Redpoint (4 attempts)

The Lion King left me with a flapper wound on my left ring finger and a blood clot on my right middle finger. I doubt I will be climbing even tomorrow. Today is also a rest day for us. John and Pengyang are as psyched as ever. So many routes that they wanna send. Me? I guess I am just here to climb. No need to put myself under unecessary pressure. I am here to clock climbs. But don't get me wrong! I am here to train as well. I will not be slacking here. Neither will I be contented with just doing 6as and 6bs. I will just do what I feel like doing and what the rest recommend me to do.

Its a really nice over here and I am happy to be here, but I miss home even more. Can't wait to be back.
